Four steps on the iPad your consultants already carry. Analysis usually takes under a minute.

  1. Photograph

    Shoot the tattoo with the reference card flat beside it. The camera stays open for a close-up and a wider shot, or pick up to ten photos from the library.

  2. Assess

    One tap each for skin type, location, ink amount, layering and scarring. Every tile shows its Kirby-Desai points, and the summary bar lists what's still needed.

  3. Analyze

    The tattoo and the reference card are segmented separately. The card's known size turns pixels into centimeters, and the ink colors are read from the tattoo itself.

  4. Plan

    A session range, the treatment span, the full factor breakdown and any photo-quality notes, on one screen. Share a plain-text summary with the patient before they leave.

A real size, not an eyeball guess.

Segmentation finds the ink and the reference card in every photo. Because the card is always 3 × 2.5 in, the tattoo's area, width and height come out in centimeters, and the ink mix feeds the colors factor of the score.

  • Reference card not found. Place the card flat beside the tattoo and retake.
  • Reference card too small. Move closer so the card is clearly visible.
  • No reference card. Place the card flat beside the tattoo and retake.
  • Tattoo not found. Check it's in focus and fills more of the frame.
  • Partial view. Frame the whole tattoo with some skin around it.
  • Tattoo obstructed. Move hair, clothing or jewelry out of the frame.

Noted on the report

  • Low light. Retake in brighter, even light.
  • Blurred. Hold the iPad steady and tap to focus.
  • Poor angle. Shoot straight on, parallel to the skin.
  • Reference card rotated. Area stays accurate; width and height may be approximate.

Questions clinics ask.

Does it replace the consultant's judgement?

No. It measures, scores and applies your clinic's rules consistently. The consultant confirms the assessment and adds notes before anything reaches the patient.

What do we need to start?

An iPad running iPadOS 18.5 or later and the reference card. The card is 3 × 2.5 in, and every photo is sized against it.

How long does an estimate take?

Filling in the assessment takes a few taps. Analysis usually finishes in under a minute, and the consultant can keep talking to the patient while it runs.

Can we change how sessions are spaced?

Yes. Admins set the shortest and longest interval between sessions and the range around the score. The defaults are 6–8 weeks and ±2 sessions. Publishing creates a new rules version, and old reports keep theirs.

Does it connect to our EMR or practice software?

Not today. Tattoolytics is standalone. Each estimate can be shared as a plain-text summary to paste into your records or send to the patient.

What happens when a photo is poor?

The report lists every quality issue with a fix. Missing or unusable reference cards stop the size measurement so a bad photo never produces a confident-looking number.
